What is ethics? Ethics asks • what sort of people we are (e.g., faithful, honest, compassionate, forthright, loyal, confrontational); • how we think (e.g., about the world, about other people, about life and death, about wealth); • what sort of thing we do (e.g., show hospitality, exercise generosity, enable people to keep Sabbath); and • what sort of thing we don’t do (e.g., murder someone, have sex with someone’s spouse, steal someone’s property).
